Research Directions for Human Clarity in the AI Era
Introduction
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how humans communicate, make decisions, and organize society.
While significant research has focused on model capability, alignment, safety, and governance, less attention has been given to the emotional and psychological conditions of humans interacting with AI systems.
The EQAI Research Agenda proposes a set of research directions centered on one fundamental question:
How can human beings maintain clarity, responsibility, and emotional awareness while interacting with increasingly powerful AI systems?
EQAI approaches this question as an interdisciplinary field connecting artificial intelligence, psychology, ethics, communication, design, and governance.

Human Emotional State in AI Interaction
A central premise of EQAI is that human emotional state affects interpretation, judgment, and decision-making during AI interaction.
Key questions include:
• How do emotional states influence human trust in AI outputs?
• Under what conditions does AI interaction amplify anxiety, reactivity, or overconfidence?
• How can emotional awareness be measured or supported during AI-assisted tasks?
• What kinds of interface interventions reduce impulsive reactions?
This domain explores the relationship between emotional regulation and responsible AI use.

Reflective Interaction Design
Most AI systems are optimized for speed and efficiency.
EQAI proposes that some human–AI contexts require reflection rather than acceleration.
Key questions include:
• What interface patterns encourage pause and reflection?
• When does slowing interaction improve judgment quality?
• How should reflection prompts be designed without becoming intrusive or manipulative?
• What forms of interaction best support thoughtful decision-making?
This domain focuses on designing systems that strengthen human reflection.

Human Responsibility and Decision Integrity
As AI systems become more capable, the boundary between assistance and decision substitution becomes increasingly important.
Key questions include:
• How does AI affect perceived responsibility for decisions?
• Under what conditions do users defer too easily to AI outputs?
• How can systems preserve clear human accountability?
• What design principles maintain decision integrity in AI-supported environments?
This domain examines how responsibility can remain human even in highly AI-mediated settings.

Organizational EQ in AI Environments
AI is increasingly used not only by individuals but also by teams, companies, and institutions.
EQAI proposes that emotional clarity is not only a personal issue but also an organizational one.
Key questions include:
• How does AI affect communication dynamics within teams?
• Can emotionally reactive organizational patterns be amplified by AI systems?
• What governance structures reduce distortion, escalation, or misalignment?
• How can organizations develop healthier AI-supported communication practices?

Ethical and Human-Centered AI Governance
Technical governance alone is insufficient if human interaction remains emotionally unstable or cognitively distorted.

Human–AI interaction does not occur within a single cultural framework.
EQAI recognizes that emotional expression, responsibility, and communication norms differ across societies.

• How do cultural norms affect AI interaction patterns?
• Are reflection-based interfaces perceived differently across cultures?
• What universal principles of human clarity can be identified?
• How should EQAI adapt to global and multilingual contexts?
This domain supports EQAI’s global orientation.
Methodological Approach
The EQAI Research Agenda encourages interdisciplinary methods, including:
